Crew Member Discloses Emotional Distress In the Wake of ‘Tsunami of Harassment After Historic Trip
A pioneering space traveler has opened up regarding her emotional downturn after being subjected to a relentless barrage of criticism in the aftermath of a pioneering women-only spaceflight.
Amanda Nguyen – recognized as a scientist and civil rights advocate – was part of the short-duration mission earlier this year, which also carried well-known figures.

“For a full week, I was bedridden and couldn't leave my Texas location,” she revealed. “Weeks after, I was forced to terminate a call, my voice choked by tears.”

Ms. Nguyen, who has focused her career on gynecological science and operated research during the mission, said everything she had worked for – from her scientific research and years of training to the personal milestone of her roots – was buried under the avalanche of misogyny.
She is most acclaimed for her tireless campaigning fighting for justice for survivors of assault.
Her own goal of reaching space was deferred after an attack during her time as a student, leading to a years-long quest for justice.

In the time since achieving her goal, she reports that the heaviest sorrow is beginning to clear, and she thanked the followers whose kindness helped save her. “You all saved me,” she said.
She added that even with the backlash, important benefits had emerged from the mission, including elevated attention for her women's health research and new advocacy opportunities.
